Here are the highlights from the 2015 Thursday Night Lights Championship Game:
The last game of the summer season featured the top seeded teams from Thursday Night Lights, Undici and undefeated MTV. Undici exploded out of the gate, hitting shots from everywhere on the court en route to a 7-1 lead three minutes in. That’s when MTV’s Brian Nerney got hot though, scoring eight points in an 11-5 MTV run that tied the game at 12 with 12 minutes left in the first half. Undici quickly answered MTV’s run with a run of its own, as Undici soon embarked on a 17-5 run that put the team ahead by 29-17 with five minutes to go. The game of runs continued as the first half wound down, as MTV responded with a huge 11-1 run to end the half. The last points of the the run came via Qa’rraan Calhoun of MTV, who stole an Undici pass with just seconds left and laid the ball in at the buzzer to cut Undici’s halftime advantage to two. MTV remained hot in the second half, and a Calhoun three-pointer two minutes into the half gave his team its first lead of the game. MTV continued its hot streak, extending its lead to eight with 12 minutes to go in the contest. Undici would cut the MTV lead to three at one point, but that’s the closest they got the rest of the game. Calhoun (17 points) and Nerney (21) were simply too much for Undici, who never regained its first-half mojo. Nerney was named MVP of the game, and MTV took home the TNL crown for the third year in a row.
